Chris Conley raises Brandon IUC status to questionable – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

SANTA CLARA — The potential availability of wide receiver Brandon Ayuck took a significant downward turn Thursday night with the 49ers’ game-day roster moves.

The 49ers promoted veteran wide receiver Chris Conley from the practice squad in case Ayuk was out.

Iuk is expected to be added to the team’s inactives 90 minutes before kickoff against the New York Giants at Levi’s Stadium on Thursday night.

Ayuk injured his left shoulder during the 49ers’ Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Before facing the Giants in Week 3, the club listed him as questionable for the game in its final status report.

Wide receiver has become quarterback Brock Purdy’s favorite target. He was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after catching eight passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Conley is available to face the Giants along with Tebow Samuel, Jawan Jennings, Ronnie Bell and Ray-Ray McCloud.

With Embry Thomas (knee) also listed as questionable, the 49ers made moves to have two additional cornerbacks available for the game.

The 49ers promoted cornerback Trey Zwilling from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and, along with Conley, promoted cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles from the practice squad.

The 49ers released veteran cornerback Anthony Brown, who the club signed on Tuesday to make room for Swilling on the active roster.

Brown becomes a free agent and could be re-signed by the 49ers in the coming days.

Conley is in his ninth NFL season. He spent time with Kansas City, Jacksonville, Houston and Tennessee.

He has appeared in 109 games with 63 starts. Conley has 217 career receptions for 2,853 yards and 15 touchdowns.
